Local Knowledge
Christchurch is well known in New Zealand as the garden city, with a population of over 350,000 it is the international gateway to the South Island. Located on the south coast of the South Island it really is a city of contrasts. It is home to many well-established, expansive parks and public gardens such as the 161-hectare Hagley Park, the Botanic gardens and four leafy inner city avenues. It is a place where its residents continue to enjoy a healthy, active lifestyle amidst a natural environment world-renowned for its beauty.

If wandering through the gardens are not really your thing, the area of Brighton and Sumner offer some beautiful beaches and a large pier to stroll along.
Christchurch has a mild climate with its warmest months being December through to January. Also a city rich in art and culture, make sure you take a visit to Cathedral Square to have a look at some of the beautiful artwork and stunning architecture on offer.
You can reach Christchurch from any of the main centres with Air New Zealand, Pacific Blue and Jet Star. Being so easily accessible it is a great starting point for those travelling around the South Island.
