The town of Rotorua provides plenty of truly unique experiences to suit every kind of traveller on any kind of budget. Located on the Southern Lake Shore of Lake Rotorua, it is an international tourism icon and renowned as the heartland of Maori Culture in New Zealand.
It has a population of around 70,000 people with 35% being Maori. You can drive there from Auckland in around 4 hours or take a flight from Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch on Air New Zealand. Rotorua has one of the busiest domestic airports in New Zealand so be sure to book your flight in early to get a good price.

Take a trip out to Redwoods forest, also known as Whakarewarewa Forest to try a bit of Mountain Biking on their amazing purpose built trails or take a walk along their nature tracks. Located only a 5-minute drive from the city centre it is definitely worth a visit.
