Queenstown

With mountain peaks as far as the eye can see, shimmering lakes, and pure crisp alpine air, Queenstown is quite simply a place of pure inspiration. Whether you have an appetite for adventure and the mountains or are more at home tracking down a delicious meal and fine wine, this cosmopolitan four season, lake and alpine resort provides the perfect mix of action and relaxation for an unforgettable visit.

It’s no exaggeration to say you can experience more in Queenstown in a day than most do in a lifetime.  There’s a huge range of high octane activities to choose from year-round like skydiving, bungy jumping, jet boating, ziplining and paragliding.  Those looking for a slower pace can chill out on world-class golf courses, explore scenic trails on foot or bike, sample award-winning Central Otago wines and local cuisine, enjoy a spa treatment or peruse the town’s many shops, galleries, bars, cafes and restaurants.  In winter there’s easy access to six ski fields for fantastic skiing and boarding and for the ultimate alpine experience there’s plenty of pristine powder to be conquered through backcountry heli-skiing.

Queenstown is also the gateway to nearby Arrowtown, a picturesque historic goldmining village, Milford and Doubtful Sounds, and Glenorchy’s epic Lord of the Rings scenery.

Local Knowledge

Nestled on the Shores of the crystal clear waters of Lake Wakitipu and surrounded by majestic mountains. Queenstown is New Zealand’s premier lake and mountain resort town. It also is known as New Zealand’s adventure capital with plenty to keep you busy in both the winter and summer months. From bungy jumping to wine trails, jet boating to tramping, dining out to skiing the tricky part is deciding how you are going to fit it all in! It is said that this gorgeous town got its name from a local gold digger who proclaimed it was “ fit for Queen Victoria”. Queenstown is accessible by plane from the main centres of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

‘Surrounded by majestic mountains and nestled on the shores of crystal clear Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown is New Zealand’s premier four season lake and alpine resort’

It does however get extremely busy especially in the winter months due to its superb access to ski fields (such as Coronet Peak and The Remarkables) so once again be sure to book early if you are going to fly here. Otherwise it is about a seven - eight hour drive from Christchurch. Queenstown really is a unique experience if you are travelling around the South Island so be sure to drop in for some exciting adventures or just to admire the stunning scenery.
